The process:
An image is chosen and scanned and a laser print is made. A thin layer of acrylic paint is rolled out onto a a gel plate, then the laser print is placed on it, face down, for several seconds. The paint is absorbed into the print in the light areas and remains on the plate in the dark areas. The laser print is then discarded, and you’re left with a mirror image on the plate, in the color of the acrylic paint chosen.
When dry, ‘masks’ can be used to isolate areas for the application of additional layers of color.
When these layers are dry, a background color can be applied. While this last layer of paint is still wet, the printmaking paper is placed on top, and a little pressure is applied. When dry, the printmaking paper is peeled from the plate, and with it comes all of the layers of paint, leaving the plate clean and ready for the next print.
